Moreau Catholic High School Honors Coach Al Vermeil, 1973-78

matthewtonyA Letter from Moreau Catholic Hall of Fame Coach Al Vermeil:

To My Boys (Now Men),

Having the new athletic facilities named after me is the greatest thing that can ever happen to a coach and it’s all because of you. Like Lance told me when you guys put me in the Moreau Hall of Fame “Dad You Did it Your Way”. I never knew how to be anything but myself. I hope somehow Lance knows what all of you have done for me and the entire Vermeil family. I’m deeply humbled and honored; it all happen because I got to coach all of you and that was the greatest part of my whole coaching career. Nothing ever compared. I’m going paraphrase Coach Lombardi”

“All Of The Rings, All Of The Money, All Of The Color And All Of The Display, They Linger Only In The Memory. The Spirit, The Will To Win And The Will To Excel, And Putting Your Team and Teammates First, and Your Self Interest Second. These Are The Things That Must Endure And Are The Qualities That Are So Much More Important Than Any Of The Events That Occasion Them.”

My Boys At Moreau Made All These Qualities Come To Life. That’s Why I Love All Of You; Because Of You I Had the Chance To Coach In Camelot For 6 Years.  Merry Christmas And Happy New Year,

Coach Al Vermeil

If you could forward this to any of your former teammate that’s not on my email list, please do so and send me their email so I can add them to the list
