Pleasanton couple's dog a winning wiener

"In the seven years they have been together, Patrick Major has seen Sammy Davis transform from a playful pet to one of the fastest dachshund racers in the state. Even though he stands only about 6 inches tall, Sammy can pump his stubby little legs and leap through the air to catch Frisbees nearly as big as he is. And, this pooch was a doggie pinup in the International Disc Dog calendar three years running." Read More Here

Thank you Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise for sponsoring the Pleasant Valley Chess Club in 2015

What an amazing educational experience at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Novato. Ms. Deborah Baraban, Pleasant Valley 5th grade teacher had a vision of exposing her children to the game of chess for the 2014-15 academic calendar.

She states, “chess is wonderful for achieving higher mathematic skills, discipline, and improving critical thinking – vital for the middle school transition next year.”

With the support of the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise members Rodrigo Silveira, Michael Landram, Mike Ring, and Christian Thawaites – the students of Deborah’s class have learned chess over a 6 week period. We could not have made this happen without the support of our student volunteers, Chase McCoy, Novato High School ’15 and Perry Wood, Santa Rosa Junior College. Many thanks to the Rotarians for sponsoring the Novato Chess Club t-shirts

It truly takes a village of working individuals – willing to show up, and make a difference. Hard work, effort and determination have made Pleasant Valley Elementary Chess Club a valuable resource in Novato.

We continue our 5th grade chess program at Pleasant Valley Elementary next week at 1:15-2:45 pm
